Celebrating ten years as Mark Danger, Mark Durksen is becoming, well, Mark Durksen again.
Mark signed with LSTNFND in November 2015 after he transitioned out of a youth-ministry position and made the move to Toronto. Here he’s found a home, one where he’s been inspired to keep it humble and become more honest as an artist. Both are qualities you’ll find in a string of singles Mark will be releasing throughout the rest of the year.
“I love the name Mark Danger. It’s fun, exciting, unexpected, it rolls off the tongue. And in my early years of recording and performing original music having a name that disarms and suspends expectation was a great confidence boost,” says Mark.
“People connected with it, and it stuck.”
But with maturity, musical and spiritual growth, Mark is outgrowing the stage name. Instead of a persona he feels he has to fit into, Mark desires honesty and transparency in life and in writing. That’s why he is coming out of the danger box and returning to his legal name.
Mark Durksen. A name that’s much more epic than dangerous.
Marks says, “My last name has been passed down to me through generations of Mennonites who loved Jesus and faithfully practiced non-violence, even in the face of systematic oppression. It’s the name of saints and martyrs and I’m honoured to claim it as my own, so why not write and perform with it too?”
